New score box; the plot thickens...

Simon has recognised a few faces in the picture from last Monday, and I've managed to scan the pages from the 1964 magazine!

By then, I was miles away, (and had actually given up cricket, as golf and tennis seemed a better option). I'm afraid someone will have to work out who is who from the names mentioned in GB's resume of the 1963 season!

(If you click on each of the pages, they'll embigger on your screen)!

Most of the Colts team of 1963 were seniors when I arrived. I note Douglas Kell (now Professor) was in the side. The Docwra in this team would be Ed Docwra (the elder son of Jim Docwra, also an old boy), who went on to Oxford and had a few outings for the Blues

Dear all,
I just happened to be researching the Maltby family online when when I came upon this site.I must admit I was pleasantly surprised.I attended Hydneye House, if my memorry serves me correctly, from 1952-1955 when I left for HMS
Conway.
It was my misfortune to be sent to a family owned school as Ettrisc Maltby was a cousin and Tony Bassett my uncle and godfather.Nedless to say this was a ready built conduit to my parents when it came to bad behaviour, which I might add, caused much pain on numerous occasions especially with my penchant for making apple pie beds and being caught climbing out of the dormitory window over the front porch by Uncle Tony!!
I certainly remember the Birkbecks and the Frys, grandsons of the great CB Fry. I think Charlie Fry played for Hampshire some years after leaving.I remember a chap from Toowooba in Queensdland. There are others I would remember if I heard their names.
I eventually joined the Merchant Navy from HMS Conway as an apprentice deck officer, going ashore after three years, sitting my 2nd. Mates ticket and going back to sea with Canadian Pacific Steamships as a 3rd. officer.I left the sea after six years and moved to Canada where I worked inthe airline industry in airline operations for three years before being offerd a job with a charter airline in Wilmington Delaware in the US. Due to family reasons I had to return to the UK after three years where I workd for Freddie Laker.I met my wife in London and returned to Australia with her where I have lived in Melbourne since 1974 working in the international freight forwarding industry until retirement in 2009.
My life in a nutshell. I would be very interested to know if anyone has photographs of my era at Hydney as I find as one gets older how one tends to start thinking about ones younger days. In retrospect things seemed so much more idyllic in those days long gone. Much appreciate if anyone can post a few of those '50s era photos......if possible.

Good morning (here), Simon!

This is indeed an interesting post - many thanks for getting in touch!

The earliest HHS magazine I have is from 1958, and looking through some of the names mentioned in the Society pages, I notice that you had been in touch with the old school back then! Other names for you are: - R.N.G.Robinson, S.W.Young, C.A.Curnock, N.M.Fancy, G.A.Timpson, P.M.Hare, C.A.Fry, A.C.C.Whyllie, A.B.Burke, J.K.Forward, A.C.W.Birkbeck, A.J.C Nussle, T.Tayanganon, A.A.Fancy, N.A.James, J.P.Norton, C.J.R.Garrett, A.H.M.Marcus, E.C.Smart, R.M.Estcourt, S.P.Blatchley, A.J.M.Brodribb, E.B.Crook, R.N.Copeland, I.G.M Macgregor, P.J.M.Southwell, E.J.B.Whitehead, I.G.C.White, M.G.Willis, J.E.Holford,

You may well remember the Ramsden Brothers back then (Michael and John), and their younger brother Neville was my father's godson! You may recall the Langdon brothers as well!

Incidentally, seeing your vast and varied experience in travel, did you know that Sir Basil Smallpeice was an old HHS boy?

Please keep in touch as there are several more links I may be able to help with!

I hope retirement finds you well, at this rate, I'll be able to retire when I'm about 103!!!

Kind regards,

Mike
